Dr. Nicolas Barthelemy

HK registered & EBVS Specialist in Small Animal Surgery
Dr. Nicolas Barthelemy graduated from the University of Liege, Belgium, in 2007. He completed a two-year small animal internship at the National Veterinary School of Nantes, France, and the University of Liege. In 2011, he completed a one-year International Surgical Fellowship at Michigan State University, USA, before returning to Europe to serve as a research associate at the Laboratory for Veterinary Orthopaedic Research at the University of Liege.
From 2012 to 2015, Dr. Barthelemy undertook an ECVS residency in small animal surgery at the University of Liege, successfully passing his final examination in 2016 to become a European Board of Veterinary Specialists (EBVS) specialist in small animal surgery. He then joined Langford Vets Small Animal Teaching Hospital at the University of Bristol, UK, where he worked until August 2024.
In addition to his skills in soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics, and neurosurgery, Dr. Barthelemy has developed extensive expertise in total joint replacement. In 2017, he became certified in BioMedtrix Total Hip Replacement Surgery and has since performed hundreds of these procedures on both small and large breed animals. Dr. Barthelemy is actively involved in research and has presented at international surgical congresses. He is excited to launch a new total hip replacement service at the Animal Medical Academy Hospital.
