Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine work up cases referred from primary veterinarians that require more in-depth diagnostic workups, advanced procedures and treatment. Generally, primary veterinarians refer those cases that are more challenging, or with patients that have multiple conditions that are difficult to manage.
The internal medicine service investigates, diagnoses and treats diseases of the internal organs in dogs and cats. We investigate and treat a broad range of diseases, including those of the alimentary system, the urinary system, the endocrine system, and the respiratory system etc. We also investigate and treat infectious and immune-mediated disorders in dogs and cats.
The service offers advanced diagnostic procedures, such as:
- Endoscopic evaluation and biopsy of the gastrointestinal tract (oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum)
- Endoscopic evaluation of the respiratory tract (nasal passages, airways and lungs) and broncho-alveolar lavage
- Non-invasive endoscopic foreign body retrieval
- Placement of feeding tubes
- Joint taps
- Spinal fluid taps
- Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy
- In addition, we offer on-site diagnostic advanced imaging including ultrasound examinations, computed tomography (CT scan) examinations, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies etc.
