What is Rehabilitation?
Physiotherapy/rehabilitation is commonplace to help people recover from injuries and surgeries. It is becoming increasingly available and implemented in animals to restore function, achieve weight loss and improve quality of life. The main purposes are to prevent muscle atrophy, maintain full range of joint motion, to relieve discomfort, or as part of a fitness regime.
Types of veterinary rehabilitation:
- Manual therapies such as massage, passive range of motion, joint mobilization
- Hydrotherapy such as underwater treadmill, pool swimming
- Acupuncture
- Laser therapy
- Cryotherapy and thermal therapy
- Neuromuscular stimulation by therapeutic ultrasound or electrical stimulating modalities
Which diseases your pets may suffer benefit from rehabilitation?
- Degenerative joint disease
- Tendon/ligament injury
- Recovery from musculoskeletal surgeries or neurosurgeries
- Obesity
